Εικαστικός: τέχνη και δημόσιος χώρος
Η Μαρία Παπαδημητρίου ζει μεταξύ Βόλου και Αθήνας. Είναι εικαστικός καλλιτέχνης και καθηγήτρια Εικαστικών Τεχνών στην Πολυτεχνική Σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου Θεσσαλίας στο Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτόνων Μηχανικών. Σπούδασε στην École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), Ζωγραφική και Καλλιτεχνική Εκπαίδευση. Αποφοίτησε το 1986 με διάκριση. Είναι γνωστή ως καλλιτέχνης για την ικανότητά της να ενεργοποιεί συνεργασίες και συλλογικές δραστηριότητες που συνδέουν άμεσα την τέχνη με την κοινωνία. Το έργο της είναι διαδραστικό, ποικιλόμορφο με κοινωνικοπολιτικές αναφορές και κύριο άξονα τον τόπο και τον άνθρωπο. Το 1998 ίδρυσε το Προσωρινό Αυτόνομο Μουσείο για Όλους «Temporary Autonomous Museum for All» (T.A.M.A.) το οποίο δραστηριοποιείται σε θέματα Πολιτισμού, Εκπαίδευσης και Περιβάλλοντος και το 2012 τη νέα του πλατφόρμα Souzy Tros στον Ελαιώνα της Αθήνας. Εκθέτει διεθνώς από τη δεκαετία του ’90 σε διεθνείς Μπιενάλε και σε μουσεία ανά τον κόσμο. Tο 2015 εκπροσώπησε την Ελλάδα στην 56η Μπιενάλε της Βενετίας με το έργο της “Agrimiká. Why Look at Animals?” Το 2017 σε συνεργασία με τον Αμερικάνο καλλιτέχνη Rick Lowe ίδρυσαν τον κοινωνικό χώρο Victoria Square Project, ένα χώρο πολιτισμού για την γειτονιά της πλατείας Βικτωρίας, ένα χώρο κατά των διακρίσεων. Το 2003 κέρδισε το βραβείο ΔΕΣΤΕ για τη σύγχρονη ελληνική τέχνη και το 2016 της απονεμήθηκε από την Κυβέρνηση της Γαλλικής Δημοκρατίας το παράσημο του «Αξιωματικού του Τάγματος του Φοίνικα για τους Ακαδημαϊκούς” .

Maria Papadimitriou

Maria Papadimitriou is a Greek contemporary visual artist living and working between Athens and Volos, Greece. After graduating with an honours degree in painting from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts (ENSBA), Paris, Papadimitriou began practicing as a visual artist in 1989. She uses the media of sculpture, installation, public art, video and photography to realize her artworks. In 2002 she represented Greece for the 25th edition of the São Paulo Biennial with the project T.A.M.A. (Temporary Autonomous Museum for All), an ongoing project still central to her artistic practice. She is the founder of the nonprofit association T.A.M.A. and the Art Canteen Souzy Tros. In 2015 she represented Greece for the 56th edition of the Venice Biennial with the project “Why look at animals? AGRIMIKA”. She is Professor of visual arts at the Department of Architecture of University of Thessaly in Volos (Thessaly). Issues of identity, social integration and exclusion are the recurring issues in her work. She is the co-leader of Victoria Square Project which is founded by the American artist Rick Lowe during documenta14 in Athens. In 2003 she won the DESTE prize for contemporary Greek art and in 2016 she was awarded with the rank of “Officier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Academiques” by the French government.
